The most common signs and symptoms of advanced renal cell cancer

Knowing the signs and symptoms of advanced renal cell cancer (advanced kidney cancer) can help you understand your diagnosis. Some common symptoms of advanced kidney cancer include:


  • Feeling very tired (fatigue)
  • Unexplained weight loss 
  • Fever (100.5°F [38°C] or higher)
  • A continuous pain in your side or back, just below the ribs
  • A lump or swelling in the area of your kidneys (on either side of the body)
  • Blood in your urine (also called hematuria). This may change the color of your urine to a reddish or dark brown color


These symptoms may be caused by kidney cancer or another condition that may need to be treated. It is important to talk to your health care team about any questions or concerns. They can help you understand any signs or symptoms you may be having.
